Scanning

The scanner doesn't pick up my boarding pass
  • Hold the phone still, 15–25 cm from the barcode, so the whole code fits in the frame.
  • Make sure there's enough light, or turn on the flashlight with the button in the scanner.
  • If the pass is on another phone's screen, turn that screen's brightness up and avoid reflections.
  • Still no luck? Take a screenshot or photo of the pass and import it with Photos on the home screen.
It says "Couldn't read boarding pass"

YourCheck-In reads barcodes that follow the airline industry's boarding pass standard (IATA Bar Coded Boarding Pass). Almost all airline boarding passes do, in PDF417, Aztec, QR or Data Matrix format.

Some codes look similar but aren't boarding passes, for example train and bus tickets, airline app links or lounge invitations. Those can't be decoded. If you're sure it's a boarding pass, please e-mail us so we can look into it (see "Reporting a problem" below).

"Live scanning isn't supported" on my device

Live scanning uses Apple's barcode recognition, which needs a recent device (iPhone XS or XR, or newer). On other devices you can still import a screenshot, photo or PDF of your boarding pass.

"Camera access is off"

Open the iOS Settings app → Apps → YourCheck-In and turn on Camera. The camera image is only analysed on your device and is never saved or sent.

Importing

How do I import a boarding pass from Apple Wallet?
  1. Open the boarding pass in the Wallet app.
  2. Tap ⋯ → Share Pass.
  3. Choose YourCheck-In. If you don't see it, scroll to the end of the app row, tap More and turn it on.

iOS doesn't let other apps browse your Wallet, so sharing a pass is the only way in. You can also open a .pkpass file from Mail, Files or AirDrop with YourCheck-In.

Can I import a screenshot or an e-mailed PDF?

Yes. On the home screen, tap Photos for a screenshot from an airline app, or PDF / File for a boarding pass you received by e-mail and saved to Files. The app finds the barcode on your device.

Using the app

What is Boarding Mode?

Open a pass and tap Boarding Mode. The barcode is shown full screen at maximum brightness and the screen stays on, which makes it easier to scan at the gate. If you have several passes for the same flight, for example for your family, swipe between them. Brightness is restored when you leave. Boarding Mode works offline.

The barcode is redrawn from the same data as the original, but your airline's own boarding pass is always the official one. Keep it with you.

Why are some fields missing?

Only a few fields (name, booking reference, route, flight, date and seat) are required by the standard. Everything else, such as ticket number, frequent flyer number or baggage allowance, is optional, and each airline decides what to include. YourCheck-In shows everything that's actually in the barcode.

The year of my flight looks wrong

Boarding pass barcodes store only the day of the year, not the year itself. YourCheck-In works out the year from the pass's issue date if the airline included it, or otherwise from the date you scanned it. For a pass scanned long after the flight, the year can be off.

How do I delete a pass or my whole history?

To delete one pass, open it and choose Delete from the ⋯ menu, or touch and hold it in Recent scans. To delete everything, tap the info button on the home screen and choose Delete scan history.

Privacy & pricing

Is my boarding pass data sent anywhere?

No. Passes are decoded on your device and your scan history is stored only there. The app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports that never contain pass details, and you can switch them off in the app under About → Share anonymous usage statistics. Details are in the privacy policy.

Is it safe to post a photo of my boarding pass?

Better not. The barcode usually contains your booking reference and full name, and often your frequent flyer number. On many airline websites that's enough to view or change your booking. Scan your pass with YourCheck-In to see exactly what it gives away.

Does YourCheck-In cost anything?

No. YourCheck-In is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no account. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later.

Is YourCheck-In made by an airline?

No. YourCheck-In is an independent app and isn't affiliated with any airline. It can't check you in, change seats or look up your booking. For those, please contact your airline.

Reporting a problem

E-mail support@yourflights.net with your device, iOS version, app version (shown at the bottom of the About screen) and the steps that lead to the problem. Please don't send photos or the raw data of a real boarding pass: they contain your personal booking details. If a pass can't be read, tell us the airline and how you got the pass (paper, app, Wallet, PDF).
