Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your boarding passes are decoded on your device. Their contents are never sent to us or anyone else.
- Your scan history is stored only on your device. You can delete it at any time.
- No account, no ads, no tracking across other apps or websites. We don't sell data.
- The app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports that never include pass details. You can switch them off in the app.
1. Who is responsible
The controller responsible for processing personal data in connection with YourCheck-In under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Tobias HannKorbgasse 24/10, 1230 Wien, Austria
E-mail: support@yourflights.net
2. Your boarding passes
YourCheck-In reads the barcode on a boarding pass and explains what it contains. That data can include your name, booking reference, flight details, seat, ticket number and frequent flyer number. All of it is handled as follows:
- Camera. When you scan, the camera image is analysed on your device by Apple's built-in barcode recognition. Camera images are not saved or sent anywhere. The app only uses the camera if you allow it, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.
- Photos and files. When you import a screenshot or a PDF, the app reads only the item you pick, finds the barcode on your device, and does not keep a copy of the image or file. It does not get access to the rest of your photo library.
- Apple Wallet. When you share a pass from Wallet or open a
.pkpassfile, the app reads its barcode on your device. A pass shared from Wallet is passed briefly through a private storage area on your device and deleted once it has been imported. - Scan history. The app saves the decoded barcode text of each pass you scan, with the time and how it was scanned, in its local database on your device so you can open it again. It is not uploaded to us. You can delete single passes, or your whole history under About → Delete scan history. Deleting the app deletes the history too. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, the history is included in that backup like other app data, under Apple's terms.
Airport and airline names are looked up in data built into the app, so decoding works offline and needs no network connection.
3. Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports
To find out which features are used and to fix bugs, the app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to PostHog, an analytics service. This is switched on by default. You can switch it off at any time in the app under About → Privacy → "Share anonymous usage statistics". While it is off, the app doesn't contact PostHog at all.
What is sent
| Data | Examples |
|---|---|
| Feature usage | The app was opened, a scan was started or completed (and whether by camera, photo, file, Wallet or the sample pass), the type of barcode, the number of flights on a pass, which kind of field was tapped in the decoder (for example "frequent flyer number", never its value), Boarding Mode opened or closed and for how long. |
| App and device information | App version, iOS version, device type (for example "iPhone"), screen size, language and time zone settings. |
| Crash and error reports | If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error: the type of error, where in the app's code it happened, app version and device type. |
| Random anonymous ID | A random identifier created by the app, used to count how many devices use the app and how often. It isn't linked to your name, Apple ID or any other identifier, and a new one is created if you switch statistics off and on again. |
Never sent: any content of your boarding passes (names, booking references, ticket or frequent flyer numbers, airports, flights, dates or seats), the raw barcode, images, file names or anything you type.
When the app connects to PostHog, your device's IP address is necessarily transmitted. We have configured PostHog not to store IP addresses; it is used only to derive an approximate country for aggregated statistics.
Processor and location
PostHog Inc. processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement, on servers in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). See PostHog's privacy policy.
Legal basis and retention
We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because the data is anonymous and minimal, and you can turn it off at any time, we consider that this interest is not outweighed by your interests. Usage statistics and crash reports are deleted when they are no longer needed, and after 2 years at the latest.
4. Apple services
Some features use services built into iOS. Apple processes the related data under Apple's privacy policy, not ours:
- Route map. The map on a pass's detail screen is drawn with Apple Maps, which loads map images from Apple's servers for the area shown.
- App Store. Downloading the app and its updates goes through Apple's App Store. If you tap the card for our other app, YourFlights, the App Store page for it is shown inside the app by Apple.
- App Store analytics. If you have agreed to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple provides us with aggregated download and crash statistics. We cannot identify you from these.
5. What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising and no advertising SDKs. The app doesn't use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites, and no combining of data with data from third parties.
- No selling or renting of data.
- No collection of your location.
6. This website
yourcheck-in.com doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads no content from third parties. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically records technical access data when you visit (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system) in server logs. These logs are used only to deliver the website and keep it secure, on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and are deleted after a short period.
If you e-mail us, we use your e-mail address and message only to answer you, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
7. Children
YourCheck-In is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children, beyond the anonymous statistics described above.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. You can object to the usage statistics at any time simply by switching them off in the app.
Your boarding pass data stays on your device and is under your control: you can view, export (Copy Raw Data) and delete it in the app. Because usage statistics are anonymous and not linked to you, we usually cannot identify which data belongs to your device (Art. 11 GDPR). If you would like to exercise your rights, contact us at support@yourflights.net and we will help as far as we can.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Wien.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app or this website changes how data is handled, we will update this policy and the date at the top of the page.
